Description

The Earth is dying, ravaged by decades of calamity. As humanity abandons its burning homeworld, you and your crew are among the privileged few with access to a temporary haven and a chance at survival. Build your ship and gather your crew to carry you between the stars. Choose whether you will be heroes or villains as you struggle to survive, or watch your ship become a tomb for other, more successful crews to loot. Whatever happens, it is up to you to chart your course. Space Haven combines the emergent story telling components of RimWorld with a tile-based gas-simulation system seen in Oxygen Not Included. The game tasks the player to build spaceships tile by tile, create optimal gas conditions, manage the needs and moods of their crew, encounter other space-faring groups, and explore the universe in search of a new Earth. Space Haven includes features like the possibility to vent spaceships from all gases, killing and butchering aliens for their meat, finding a person asleep in a hypersleep chamber aboard a derelict ship, having a space burial for a fallen crew member, and role-playing as a notorious pirate, cold-hearted slave trader, prosperous merchant or an alien hunter. Space Haven is inspired by games like RimWorld, Spacebase Df-9 and Oxygen Not Included.

History

Space Haven is being developed for PC, Mac and Linux by Bugbyte, a small but experienced indie team located in Finland. As of 2020 Bugbyte has been developing games for 8 years. The previous most successful games belong to a game series called "Battlevoid", out of which Battlevoid: Harbinger is the biggest success. The company was founded in March 2012 by two brothers, Aksel and Allan. Matti joined the company when it was one year old, and the team has stayed together ever since. After developing two games with dog characters as a theme and failing financially, the team decided to make a complete shift and start developing premium space strategy games. The Battlevoid game series was born, and Bugbyte has been developing space themed games ever since. Bugbyte has been through a few rough patches and was at the brink of bankruptcy right before releasing Battlevoid: Harbinger in late 2015. Harbinger was a first success for the team after developing games for 3 years. Space Haven is a completely new IP and not related to the Battlevoid series. Space Haven has been 4 years in development as of March 2020.
